Some higher level spells will also work, such as Death and Ice Spear, but others will not (Magic Missile does not). Hits hard relative to the other crits on its floor, and can inject a potent poison to boot. Getting stunned by the Serpent is quite possible, and quite dangerous.

However, the Serpent can only move two hexes a turn, and so kiting is a very viable strategy. The only challenge being the Serpent will flee when close to death; luring it into a room and closing off the exits can work, as long as you are comfortable with a "cage match"!

It can drop a Drake Potion or a Serpent Long Sword. Both seem to drop often, but not commonly
